Project Profile

Donnelley Constructions was contracted by Bovis Lend Lease under the BER (Building Education Revolution) program to build 5 class rooms, toilet/change block, disabled toilet and shower over a split level. Due to these extensions, the project had to include an entire upgrade to the electricity supply for the school.

Due to heavy criticism the Government received over the BER scheme, this project was repeatedly under the spotlight, attracting unwanted media attention and requiring every stage of this project to be justified by keeping lines of communication open and frequent. Donnelley was able to pacify all demands as they persisted throughout the project and still deliver and outstanding finished project.

The project faced its share of challenges including one being that the land to be built on was a heavily sloped site with tight access making it difficult to get the necessary trades and equipment in to complete works. Another challenge was the heavy amount of rain which occurred during the term of the project.

As the project ran through the majority of a school year, it was important to keep communications between all stakeholders fluent, continually monitoring and maintaining safety levels for students and staff at the school so that business could continue as usual. This challenge was easily met by Project Manager Brett Bell and site Foreman Simon Duda.

“During our 12 month construction period, Mr Duda demonstrated an outstanding ability to relate to me and the needs of the school. Communication was personable, early, thoughtful and constructive bringing great benefit to the project itself and the general running of the school.”

“Mr Duda demonstrated a great commitment to the project and the quality of the finished product. He also demonstrated an understanding of the complexity of the site and the context in which he was working. His management of the sub-contractors was thorough, efficient and through his management, the site was always organised, tidy and free from hazards. It is my opinion that Simon Duda has done an outstanding job and brought to Pymble Public school a wonderful project that has enhanced our school significantly and will benefit children for years to come.” Mr Peter Lee, Principle, Pymble Public School.
