Project Profile

In an exercise of versatility, Donnelley Constructions were engaged by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to undertake the complex task of demolition and redevelopment within these two iconic Buildings. The scope of works included reconstruction of 7 courtrooms, hearing rooms, judge’s chambers, member’s area, general office space and amenity areas. The elements of works included demolition, partition walls and ceilings to a high acoustic standard, internal glazing, detailed timber veneered joinery, carpet finishes to all areas, kitchenettes and bathroom fit outs, air conditioning, electrical, hydraulic services, specialised integrated court technology equipment and furniture.

Branching off into a new area of construction and servicing a new client, the staff at Donnelley were able to showcase their highly developed skills in communications and project management by making sure that alignment was met with the client’s expectations, and in such a job where security was of the highest priority. The project could not have worked any other way.

With restricted lift access and timing issues crucial, Project Manager Jason Pfeiffer and Site Foreman Adrian Hall had to manage sub contractors tightly, giving 48 hours notice prior to delivery and arrival times. Often deliveries had to be made before normal work hours and registration details of every delivery vehicle were to be made known to the client, adhering to all tight security restrictions. Staff and subcontractors had to perform works out of normal work hours, some days commencing in the early hours of the morning in order to get disruptive works complete before existing courts would commence normal operations.

Design challenges regarding joinery and glass elements were restricted by the size of the lift. Special consideration and innovative thinking enabled Donnelley to deliver an end product that met the needs of the client and displayed a high quality finish.

“ Donnelley’s have displayed reliability and a consistent level of excellence in all respects throughout the delivery of the project including:

• Minimising disruption to, and coordinating all works around the sensitive nature of the courts, judiciary and
building users;
• High level of innovation in their approach to, and proposed resolution of issues encountered on-site;
• An intellegent, pro-active and collaborative approach has delivered quality outcomes across various areas
impacting positively on quality, cost and time;
• Readily available for consultation or information when required or requested; and
• Management and integration of complex stakeholder requests in an efficient and effective manner.

Donnelley’s have successfully delivered a high quality project for the Department” - Britt Jovanovski, Development Manager, Capital Works, Department of Justice and Attorney General.
