The Goulburn Hospital Health Services Redevelopment Final Works

Project Profile

Health Infrastructure awarded this $20 million project to Donnelley Constructions in June 2022 as part of the broader redevelopment of Goulburn Base Hospital. Final Works comprised the renovation and refurbishment of existing hospital facilities, transfer of services into new clinical environments, and completion of associated landscaping works.

The scope of works included delivery of a new ambulatory outpatient services ward incorporating physiotherapy and occupational therapy, a new pathology department, a new main campus communications room, a new oncology ward, and a new Aboriginal Health Unit. The works also incorporated the Clinical Training Facility as part of the Australian National University redevelopment, upgraded car parking off Albert Street to support renal, oncology and ambulatory outpatient services, new staff workspaces, and demolition of existing buildings along Albert Street.

The final works stage delivers a range of enhanced health services and facilities, including ambulatory outpatient services, hospital-in-the-home, wound clinics, stress testing and audiometry, oncology services, Aboriginal health services, a transitional living unit, and a new MRI service. The works also included integration of the Clinical Training Facility within the broader campus, upgraded parking infrastructure, and modern staff accommodation areas.

These works involved the refurbishment of multiple areas within the existing hospital and the staged transfer of operational services into newly completed facilities, requiring careful coordination to maintain continuity of care.

Key Challenges and Delivery Outcomes

Delivery within a live hospital environment required a highly coordinated and responsive approach. Donnelley Constructions continually monitored and reassessed the impact of construction activities on hospital operations, staff, patients, and the surrounding community. Construction methodologies and staging were adapted as required to mitigate disruption and maintain safe, uninterrupted access to all operational areas.

All surrounding hospital facilities remained fully operational throughout the duration of the project and were successfully accommodated. The site team’s proactive communication and stakeholder engagement ensured that challenges were effectively managed, resulting in the successful and seamless delivery of the final stage of the redevelopment.
